BM Institute of Engineering & Technology was established in 1999 by Bhagwan Mahaveer Education Trust with the objective of creating a center of excellence in the field of technical education at Sonepat. BM Institute of Engineering & Technology is affiliated to M.D. University, Rohtak and approved by AICTE to conduct four year degree course in Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Engineering. Approval to start degree course in Electrical and Electronics Engineering was obtained in the year 2007 whereas two years P.G. courses in M.B.A. and M-Tech. (Electronics and Communication) commenced from the session 2008-09.

BM Institute of Engineering & Technology has state of the art laboratories, computer centers, library with excellent collection of books, international and national journals, and reading room, canteen and bank counter.

BM Institute of Engineering & Technology, Sonipat, Haryana (BMIET) is located in Sonepat, behind Fazilpur power sub-station, in picturesque surroundings at a distance of about 16 km from Delhi-Bahalgarh-Sonepat road, Sonepat (in the national capital region). Sonepat means in sanskrit language 'suvarna prastha' or golden place. One popular tradition avers that this is one of the five prasthas or patas viz. Indraprastha, Sonepat, Panipat, Baghpat, Talpat. Mentioned in "MAHABHARTA" FOR WHICH Yuddhishthira DEMANDED from Duryodhana. Another tradition ascribes its foundation to raja Soni (13th descendant from Arjuna, a brother of Yuddhishthira). The campus has been developed in an area of 11.15 acre in the scenic surroundings.
